CSA + Garden Haul Week 7 (7/05/12)

Summer is here in earnest! No more cool season veggies, but that means the rest is IN. We made a valiant attempt to eat up what we had before today, and we did pretty good. Here's what we have to work with this week.... (photo only shows CSA veggies...).

CSA**:
  •  5 gorgeous cucumbers despite Caleb's insistence that they were "seconds" and I could take as many as I'd like (which was 5☺)
  • 1 pound small slicing onions
  • 1 1/2 pounds red potatoes
  • 1 bunch kohlrabi--our experiment since I've never tasted or cooked this! Greens and bulbs are edible, so it's a 2-for-1 ☺
  • 2 summer squash
  • 2 tomatillos
  • 1 lovely tomato
  • 1 pound green beans
  • ** Because of the insane heat recently (breaking records all over the place!) and lack of water, our shares may be a bit on the smallish side for a week or two while the farm tries to catch up. OK by me since I don't think we could eat it all up right now!
Farmer's Market: (also in above picture)
  • 1/2 gallon organic milk just for kicks
  • 1 pound organic ground beef just for kicks

Garden:
  • Basil
  • Cherry tomatoes! (50 or so/week right now)
  • Squash beginning to form
  • Bell peppers have flowered

Friends' Gardens:
  • 2 pounds green beans
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 2 zucchini
  • 2 salsa peppers (kind of like jalapenos)
  • 1 green bell pepper

Leftovers:
  • 1+ pounds summer squash
  • 1/2 head Napa cabbage
  • few radishes
  • green onions
  • various crudite (including peppers, broccoli, carrot sticks, celery sticks, etc.) from a recent event
