It's the first pick-up of September!! That means a nice mix of late summer and early fall veggies. Mmmm... And do I have some good recipes for this batch o' veggies. So, stay tuned.
Here's what was in my box:
- okra!! (a recipe for this comin' for sure)
- bell peppers
- chilies (green cayennes)
- yellow 1-ball squash and 1 white squash (pattypan?)
- KALE!!!**
- 1 bunch radishes
- 1 bunch fresh basil
**The word on the street is that the kale needs careful washing. Remember to soak it for a few minutes in a tub of water and use several changes of water. You may need to rub it with your fingers slightly, too, since there are some little aphids clinging to it. These aren't hard to get off--but it's good to know. And, while we're on the subject of kale, since it's nice and hot outside, try the
Massaged Kale Salad!
I'm into juicing right now (not a fast, but a way to up my micronutrients) and I can see juicing all of that except the okra, squash, and chilies. It all looks yummy!
