Grammie's Chocolate Pound Cake

This makes regular appearances at my in-laws' table. My sister-in-law Rebekah has made it the last two times I've eaten it, and it's delicious (especially with ice cream)! Pound cakes are not difficult, and the ingredients are so ordinary--so you can make this a lot. Grammie is my husband's grandmother.

  • 1 1/2 c. butter
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1 t. baking powder
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 c. milk
  1. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and beat slowly, increasing speed until well mixed.
  2. Mix flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt together and add to first mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with flour.
  3. Bake in a 10-inch tube pan in a 325-degree oven for 1 1/2 hours.
